The Grand Undoing’s “White Space Flavors and Parties On TV” is slated for release on 8-14-14
Those aren’t my words, but I wish I had thought of them. I’ve seen The Swans, and look forward to it again, though I’ll have some ear-muffs with me next time. They have to be the loudest band on Earth!
I haven’t seen Bowie, but I want to…
The comparison. It’s apt. Completely.
Not that the mix on The Grand Undoing’s second release is ear-bleeding loud (as a matter of fact, it’s beautifully dynamic), but some of the bass parts and the vocal definitely have the same flavor. As far as Bowie goes, there is another vocal similarity. But it doesn’t end there. “Song in B” is very reminiscent of “The Man Who Ruled The World.”
Let’s drop the comparisons for a minute. When you put this one on for a spin you are going to be greeted by music that sounds fresh and “in the moment,” while fitting like a broken in ball mitt. The vocals are bright and up front like they should be and not forced in the least. Seth’s voice is strong and confident, and his lyrics are deep. Deep like the diving end of the pool. That is, there’s enough water there to think about but not enough to scare you off.
The arrangements and instruments chosen fit perfectly with the voice. Whether melodramatic or upbeat, each song stands on it’s own, or fits into the underlying spirit of the record.
Back to the comparisons… add a touch of Elvis Costello and between the three, you’ve got it. There’s just enough weirdness here to spin your noggin, and just enough traditional pop groove to make you dance. All in all, “White Space Flavors and Parties on TV” is one of those records that makes me want to play it daily. Yeppers… it’s a keeper!
Now, you know I can’t give out secret preview tracks, but you can sure-nuff prepare yourself for the upcoming release by checking out The Grand Undoing on Soundcloud ( I recommend it). Here’s one from the previous album…
